CHS Alumni Scholarship Recipients 2018

The CHS Senior Academic Awards Ceremony was held on Wednesday, May 1, 2018. Many students received recognition as outstanding students in various departments, such as English, Math, Science, PE, and Arts.

Scholarships were also awarded by the CHS Class of 1965, the CHS Class of 1968, Marine Corps, Sons of American Revolution, I Can Award, Barbara Bush Foundation, Keiser University, Sophia’s Imagination, Lifetouch, Raytheon, St. Pete College, Elks Lodge Dunedin/Clearwater, Rotary Club of Clearwater, Island Estates Women’s Club, William Justice Scholarship, Ed Evans Leadership Award, L. Bary Santy Memorial, Herman and Mary Allen Scholarship, Dorothy Bowes-Nee Scholarship and the CHS Alumni Association.  It sounds like a lot of scholarships..but we all know what it takes to go to college today and there are more kids out there than there are scholarships! When you have 50 to 80 students applying for help, then you realize that the need is greater than the supply! Which is why we do the Almost Annual Golf Tournament…to raise sufficient funds to give scholarships each year.

The CHS Alumni Association has picked two recipients for our scholarships and they are Daniel Abood and Christopher Julian.
Daniel Abood is a fine young man who has been selected by the faculty for the Crimson and Grey Scholarship Award. He is a Business Major and plans on attending the University of Florida. He is a National Merit Scholar Semifinalist 2017, AP Scholar with Honor 2017, AICE Diploma with Distinction 2017, YMCA Volunteer of the Year 2014 and FBLA State Leader Qualifier 2015 – 2017. He also received the Scholastic Excellence Award from the Marine Corp.
Christopher Julien is another example of a fine young man from CHS.. He was awarded the AICE Diploma with Merit 2017, Winner of the Florida Representatives, Chris Latvala, Ought to be a Law Competition 2017, AICE Chemistry Excellence Award 2016, AICE Language Award 2017 and the AICE Global Perspectives Excellence Award 2017. He has been the President of the National Honor Society and Historian of the Senior Class. Julian will be attending the University of CA – Berkeley. His major is Microbiology.
We wish both of these young men the best of luck with their graduations from CHS and the promise of a future of learning and exploring as they navigate the world of college!
